A Present Help In Troubled Times
Social and civil unrest. Worldwide protest against racial injustices. A global pandemic. High political tensions along with a rise in unemployment. Many of us are uncertain with how the remainder of this year will play out; 2020 hasn’t given us any breaks and we’re not sure if it will. There are real and present fears consuming the minds of so many people and it can be overwhelming. Fear of dying as the result of racial targeting and profiling. Fear of a virus that has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide. Fear of not being able to provide for our families as millions have lost their jobs. Will it get better, and if so, when? I don’t know when or if the world will ever go back to “normal.” I don’t think it was ever normal to begin with; just everybody working with what they have.
However, one thing I know holds true and that is God is still in control and on the throne. His grace is and has been sufficient. Waking up each morning is a blessing in itself with all that is taking place around us. The Bible tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). With that truth and promise from our divine Creator we can walk through this earth with clarity and assurance; having a sense of awareness that God walks alongside us.
Fear is a crippling and debilitating emotion that keeps us from thriving. It keeps us from claiming our power and dominion that we have in this world. If we waited on the world to provide our next step we’d be waiting forever. Instead we should be looking to God to order our footsteps. The time has always been now to start that business you wanted. Take those extra cooking classes, write that book or screenplay, go for that high-salary position; build up your clientele. Write the vision and make it plain. Your vision has value and you are the vessel needed to make it come to life, so be an active participant.
In doing so, you are showing the Lord that your dreams are not just hopeless aspirations. You are working your faith and in turn, God will bless the works of your hands. You may not see everything rise overnight, but one thing you will continue to see is your faith increasing and with each deposit God places inside of you, it will exceed your expectations. There are so many people out there that are turning no’s into opportunities to create a whole new lane for themselves, even in these troubled times. They continue to believe that God is absolute and infinite all at the same time. They have put their trust in Him knowing that His word given over their lives will not return void.
I encourage you to go to that secret place and meet with God. Be on time and present. When you are intentional, God will be also. Just because we have to maintain a safe distance from each other doesn’t mean we have to with God. He is waiting on you and He will show up when you show up. He is waiting on you, not the other way around. Go to Him in confidence and make your request known. Lay your cares and worries at His feet, and He will see that they are attended to. He will meet every need and even give you the desires of your heart. I am a living testimony to God’s restorative power.
I could chat for hours on how my life has changed in the last six years, but we would be here all day. Just know that I had to be disciplined and consistent. Talking with no action behind your words doesn’t yield any results, just more of the same cycles of disappointment. You’re not always going to have someone cheering you on all the time and you're definitely not always going to have all of the answers. Cultivating a life of faith with God at the helm will allow Him to instill all the things you need to complete your purpose.
My questions for you today would be: What and who are you seeking? How are you making the most of your time? Are you seeing the results that you want to see?
Be mindful and aware. Discernment is key.
