How to Develop a Relationship with God

Hey Ladies!!!! I am super excited about today's topic! Why? Because I believe it's something we all think we know how to do but a lot of times we fall short. This one is also for you new Christians out there! Now that you are saved it doesn’t just stop there. You must develop a relationship with your Heavenly Father. So let's get started. We are jumping right in today!

Worship is a wonderful way to begin developing your relationship with God. When you worship God you give Him an invitation to meet you where you are. To allow His presence to fill the room. Worship is how you begin your time spent with Him. It helps you usher in the presence of the Lord. What I like about worship is that it gets me in the mood to have quiet time even on days when I don’t feel like it. It also helps you sing/say the words that you sometimes may not know to say. There have been many times that I didn’t know what to say to Jesus or how to worship. Yet, my favorite worship song came to the rescue and I was able to flow from there. The definition of worship is “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity”. I like to think of it like this: If a person is constantly praising you, adoring you, and giving you compliments you would want to spend all the time in the world with that person right? It’s the same with God. We were put on this earth to praise Him. The more you worship, the more you develop a heart to be around God 24/7 and spend time with Him. When you show Him love He projects that love back onto you. It’s a beautiful thing. Speaking of spending time…

  1. TIME

How do you get to know someone? You spend time with them. When you want to develop a relationship with someone you give them your most precious gift: time. You MUST make it a priority to give God time out of your busy schedule daily. He gives us fresh manna each new day. We must sit with Him to receive it. I know it's hard sometimes to manage your day and what happens. It honestly is a struggle for me too. However, in order to hear the voice of God, that means I have to spend time with Him to begin to recognize His voice. The more familiar I become with His voice, then a stranger's voice I will not follow.

God will speak to you through His word. The more you read you begin to see the things He says and thinks about you. Knowing these things helps strengthen your relationship with Him. You begin to not only become confident in yourself, but you begin to become confident in HIM! The more confidence you have in a person, the more you begin to trust them. When you trust God you give Him the opportunity to carry you through life's storms and struggles. While walking through such times with Jesus your relationship becomes stronger and stronger. The same way getting through a rough patch in a relationship may strengthen your love for your significant other. It’s amazing to me how similar our relationship with God is with those who are around us.

Developing a relationship with God is easy. What makes it hard is having to say no to your flesh, and yes to your spirit man. Without being connected with God, you can’t make effective and wise decisions in the natural realm. If you want His will to be done in your life you have to allow it. You allow it by being in tune with Christ and following where he says go. If you don’t have a relationship with Him, how can you possibly hear His voice? How can His ways become your ways if you aren’t sitting at His feet and listening? While Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus learning, bonding, developing with Jesus, Martha was all over the place worried about cleaning and preparing her house. Don’t be Martha. Sit down. Hear Him. Worship Him. Let Him read to you through His word.

That is how you begin to develop something really great.

Stay fierce baby girl,
