Ordinary People

Many of the people in the Bible that God used didn’t think much of themselves. Many of them were just ordinary people before they had an encounter with God. One encounter with Him can change your life because He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Gideon was only a farmer when God commissioned him. (Judges 6:12- The Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty soldier, the Lord is with you!”)  God called him a mighty soldier before he even went to war. God calls you what you are and speaks those things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). He will call you what you’re not (at the time) so you can become who He made you to be. (Judges 6:14- Then the Lord turned to him and said, “I will make you strong! Go and save Israel from the Midianites! I am sending you!”)

As you develop your relationship with God, He will begin showing and telling you about your future. At times it may seem scary because His plans for you are greater than you can imagine, but know that if He’s called you to do something, He will give you the ability to execute it. It’s not about what you think about yourself, it’s about what and who God says you are. As a child of God you need to know who you are in Christ, who Christ is in you and be aware of the power He gave you. (Philippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.)  You can’t do what God has called you to do on your own because you need His help. It’s not by your might, but by His power. Gideon was only able to conquer the Midian army because the Lord was with Him and enabled Him to do it.

The devil’s job is to steal, kill and destroy and he will always oppose what God tells you. There’s a song by Jekalyn Carr called “You’re Bigger” and a couple of lyrics that stand out to me are “Anytime the devil tells me I'm not something I always say I am that and anytime the devil tells me I am something I always say I'm not that". You must believe what God says about you and act on it. Gideon was the least thought of in his entire family and God still used him in a mighty way because he believed God’s Word. Believe God’s Word and let Him use you. You may be an ordinary person but with God you can do extraordinary things.
