In these times where overall wellness is at the forefront, more now than ever, speaking positivity over your life has become more of a lifestyle than a fad. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. This specific scripture is telling us that we have the power to control the things we say and the things we do not say. We have the ability to speak our worlds. When you speak things over yourself for example, “I am worthy,” or “I am victorious,” these are affirmations. Affirmations are words or phrases of positive thinking and self empowerment that you declare to yourself over and over again until you start to see that thing manifest in your life.

If you are prone to thinking you are having a not so good day, declare over yourself that “Today will be a great day,” every morning until you start to see your days shifting into positivity. I’m not saying that you will immediately start to see things shift naturally, but you will begin to feel a shift in your thinking. Shifting your thinking is the most important and vital thing you can do for yourself. Many times we change our habits, but our thinking is still the same and if you want the good things you desire to manifest in your life, you must allow your thinking to match up to what you are saying and believing for.

Words of positivity and self empowerment give you this level of confidence and assurance that God will show up for you because you are standing in faith and your works are matching that faith. If you are doubting that you can finish a project for school or that you may not pass a simple test to get that license you need to start your business, STOP before you tell yourself, “I can’t,” and instead declare that you can do ALL things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you. The word of God is far more powerful than people give it credit for, because we as believers know that (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations), before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Romans 4:17, KJV.

If I can be transparent with you right now, I didn’t believe in the power of affirmations. I thought it was a gimmick. Because my mind works in the quirky way it does, I had to put the word of God into action. For thirty days I declared simple things over myself such as, “God supplies all of my needs according to His riches and glory in Christ Jesus” or “I am healed,” because I was believing for my health to improve from a muscular deficiency I had been suffering from since the age of seven. After those thirty days ended, it wasn’t the fact that God showed up for me in ways I didn’t see coming, it was that my mind had shifted out of negative thinking. I believed that without doubt that I was healed and my body responded to what my mind was thinking and what my mouth was saying. I didn’t wake up with the chronic pain that was at times debilitating. I stopped getting sinus infections 6 times a year (which is unheard of) and I was able to function physically in a way that I had not been able to before I started speaking life over myself and putting my faith into action. God didn’t just meet my needs, He exceeded them and continues to blow my mind. Declaring that I am the head and not the tail, showed up in how I reacted to things that could’ve easily offended me or upset me. Instead of reacting out of emotion, I blessed the situation. I started to see myself maturing and with maturity came the wisdom.

So the power of what you think can manifest into what you say which will eventually show up in your life whether it’s good or bad. I know that sometimes situations and circumstances can be tough and hard when we are living in those moments, we don’t see a way out, but continuing to speak death over those situations will not change those situations, it actually keeps them rotating in and out of your life. What if you tried something else? What if you spoke life? I would challenge anyone going through something to begin to speak affirmations over yourself. Tell yourself you are love and you walk in love, you are the light of the world, that you are worthy, you are beautiful and see the difference it will make in your overall mind, body and spirit.
